A brisk walk, a bicycle ride in the country, a dip in the sea, a round of golf, a game of tennis or an aerobics session on the beach will all help to get you in shape while making you feel great. But while you’re in the mood for a summer workout or some sports fun under the sun, why not try something a little different?

This involves doing a whole slew of exercises, including squats, lunges and forward bends, plus dance and cardio movements while beating out a rhythm to a soundtrack of suitable tunes ranging from classic rock to hip-hop. The movement of your arms as they pound out the beat using specially weighted drumsticks throws your body slightly off balance, forcing you to squeeze your core muscles to compensate. Tapping your way to peak condition breaks up the monotony of exercise wonderfully.

This variation on the theme of stand-up paddle-boarding is well in keeping with the yoga mindset as it allows a total connection to nature. You have to work harder to maintain balance, and your board will certainly let you know if you don’t get it right. The result is greater focus and a renewed sense of connection to your yoga discipline.
Finally, who needs expensive gym equipment and fitness classes?
