If you travel to this Iberian city, why not mix fashion with sightseeing? Here are a few ways to enjoy 24 hours in Lisbon
Twice a year, city centre venues and the coastal suburb of Estoril become a fashion haven during Moda Lisboa (that’s Lisbon Fashion Week to you and I). So if your holiday happens to coincide with this bi-annual event, why not join the 40,000 strong throng of fashionistas, journalists, bloggers and designers and be the first to catch a glimpse of the latest trends? The stunning seaside setting is also home to numerous churches, museums and beaches and you can amuse yourself at night by heading out to eat or browsing in the beautiful boutiques the area has to offer.
Chiado is home to many of Lisbon's finest boutiques. The well-known shopping district combines the old and new, offering everything from quaint, traditional shops selling beautifully handmade vintage-style accessories to more contemporary fashion. Why not take a stroll along the Avenida da Liberdade- a lively boulevard which hosts numerous designer shops. As the Portuguese capital is arguably less well known for its fashion than London or Paris, the city offers more competitive prices when it comes to designer retailers.
MUDE (The Museum of Fashion and Design) is one of Lisbon's finest museums and acts as a tribute to the history of Portuguese fashion. From the modernism of the 1920s to futuristic 1960s designs and wildly innovative 1990s clothing, fashion lovers will not be left disappointed! The museum is also home to some modern masterpieces such as the famous Marilyn Lips sofa by the designer Bocca.
One of the best things about this Portuguese paradise is the street life. Do you love to haggle for a bargain? If so, Lisbon’s vibrant streets are certainly the place for you. Visit the famous Feira da Ladra, where you can find plenty of stalls selling vintage clothing, jewellery and accessories such as hats and handbags. This is the kind of place where you can buy one-of-a-kind pieces that can’t be found anywhere else.
No 24 hours in Lisboa would be complete without a night spent partying in the city's most lively district. Take the funicular railway from the city centre to the winding cobbled streets of the Bairro Alto - home to Lisbon's most energetic bars and clubs. This is the place where Lisbon’s trendiest people come to enjoy themselves, so why not join them over a cocktail or just sit back, relax and absorb the atmosphere when the district comes alive at night.
